Dublin, Ireland: A detailed tour of the city and suburbs (filmed May / J...

Dublin is the capital and largest city of Ireland. Dublin is
in the province of Leinster on Ireland's east coast, at the mouth of the River
Liffey. To read more about Dublin, click here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dublin

This film is a detailed tour around the city of Dublin, and
some of its suburbs. The film begins with the arrival at Dublin Airport, a

Hotel Review: Regency Hotel, Dublin, Ireland - July 2016

Hotel Review: Regency Hotel, Dublin, Ireland - July 2016.

I stayed one night at the Regency Hotel, just north of Drumcondra in Dublin, in July, 2016. I booked with Alpharooms, and paid for one night bed and breakfast.

I chose this hotel due to its close proximity to Dublin Airport, as well as the city centre. The hotel is served by excellent public transport links, via the bus stop outside on Drumcondra Road Upper, where there is a bus into the centre of Dublin, roughly every 10 minutes. There is a direct bus to the bus stop on Drumcondra Road Upper from the Airport, which is the number 41, the name of the stop is Swords Road (Griffith Down).

I bought a 3 day Dublin Leap Card from the Spar shop at Dublin Airport, this cost 20 Euro, a daily ticket costs 10 Euro, so buying a 3 day one was the same price as buying 2 day tickets. I then used this on all public transport (buses, trams, trains) within Dublin.

The hotel is a very large building set back from the main road, it isn't that pretty to look at from the outside, it looks lie a mish mash of blocky extensions, but inside is a different story, with a mixture of classic, homely, and contemporary decor and furnishings.

It was 30 degrees in Dublin when I arrived (very unusually hot for the city) so I asked for a room on a high floor that would not have the sun shining on it, and that would have good air conditioning to keep cool. I was allocated room 3142, which was at the back of the hotel, and a good 3 minute walk from the lift.

The room was a good size, it had a very large king sized bed, wardrobe, TV, draws, chairs, desk and ample plug sockets. The air conditioning was excellent and really cooled the room down very effectively, it even worked with the window open (from which there is a bit of a view of Croke Park).

The bathroom was very modern, it had a shower-bath, which I am not too keen on, but it worked just fine, a decent sink, toilet and free toiletries.

The hotel has a separate health club, the 'Regency Health Club', which has a good sized swimming pool. I enjoyed using the swimming pool a great deal, although it did get fairly busy with health club members. Some older ladies took up two lanes in the pool while they walked up and down and gabbed constantly. A member quipped to me that they are there every day. I can just imagine it to be honest! You need to have a bathing / swimming hat to use the pool, and I had to buy one from the health club for 3 Euro. It looked like some kind of do-rag on me!

The breakfast buffet at the hotel was extensive and excellent, truly a sumptuous banquet with cereals, continental and full Irish breakfast options - it was just great. The only very slight negative were the queues caused by groups of (mostly) American tourists staying at the hotel.

This film features: external views of the hotel; the lobby / lounge area; reception; the lift / elevator; views along third floor corridors; a detailed room inspection of room 3142 including the bathroom; the health club including the swimming pool and male changing area; bar; restaurant; breakfast buffet; and family / games room.

Overall I very much enjoyed my time at this hotel, and would very much consider staying here again in future.

Spectacular Bus Ride from Funchal to Madeira Airport, Portugal - 3rd July, 2016.

Funchal is the largest city, the municipal seat and the capital of Portugal's Autonomous Region of Madeira. The city is the 6th largest city in Portugal, and has been the capital of Madeira for more than five centuries. Because of its high cultural and historical value, Funchal is one of Portugal's main tourist attractions. To read more about Funchal, click here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funchal

This film features views from the Aero Bus as it travels from central Funchal up into the monutains, through tunnels, gorges, and on coastal roads with spectacular views of valleys below and the Atlantic Ocean. If you ever fly to Madeira, I highly recommend getting this bus from the airport into Funchal, just for the views. I did not film the journey from the airport into Funchal, but this is the film from the return journey.

Cable Car Ride between Funchal and Monte, Madeira - 30th June, 2016.

Teleféricos da Madeira is a cable car that travels between the old part of Funchal and the parish of Monte. The cable car departs from the Almirante Reis garden, to read more about the cable car, click here: http://www.visitmadeira.pt/en-gb/what-to-do/tourist-animation-companies/telefericos-da-madeira--s-a-teleferico-monte

This film features a ride from Funchal Port to Monte at four times normal speed, followed by excerpts from the cable car ride back down the hill at normal speed. The views down the hill to Funchal, are arguably the better ones on this cable car.

Hotel Review: Suite Hotel Jardins D'Ajuda, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal - ...

Hotel Review: Suite Hotel Jardins D'Ajuda, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal - June 2016.

I stayed at the Suite Hotel Jardins D'Ajuda in Funchal, Madeira in June 2016. Two of us stayed for 7 nights bed and breakfast, which cost £312, which was a bargain in terms of room size and facilities.

This film features exterior shots of the hotel, the entrance, reception, lobby, lift / elevator, 8th floor corridors, a detailed inspection of room 835, with living room, bedroom, bathroom and balcony, views from the balcony, the swimming pool, sunbathing area, gardens, poolside snack bar, the restaurant, the indoor swimming pool, gym, cocktail bar, the cabaret entertainment and some outside orientation of things nearby, which would be useful to those staying at this hotel.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, the room was spacious and comfortable, and the balcony view towards Funchal centre was great. The swimming pool was excellent, it was often very quiet so I enjoyed being able to have an uninterrupted swim in it. The indoor pool was very good, but the gym was a bit poor and in need of updating.

All of the staff we encountered were excellent and multi-lingual.

We enjoyed using the bar, which was not expensive.

The main downside to this hotel was the food in the restaurant. I found some of it to be very poor quality e.g. the breakfast sausages. I found some of the recipes unpalatable and I was not impressed with the hygiene, where salad bowls and desserts were completely uncovered.

I would absolutely stay at this hotel again in future, BUT I would do so on a room-only basis, and use the kitchen facilities to make my own food, or just eat out.

Hotel Review: Radisson Blu, Manchester Airport, Greater Manchester, England - June 2016.

I stayed at the Radisson Blu, Manchester Airport for one night in June 2016. Two of us stayed on a room only basis, with the room costing £127.80, this was booked via Booking.com.

I found the bedroom to be extremely comfortable, it was decorated to a high-spec as Radisson Blu hotels usually are. The bed was enormous and very comfortable.

The hotel is excellently located for Manchester airport, particularly Terminal 2 which is a 5 minute walk away (please note that it is a good 10-15 minute walk from Terminal 3 and about a 10 minute walk from Terminal 1).

The room was great and the staff very friendly. I didn't try the bar or restaurant, but I did try the swimming pool, which was run by Pace Health Clubs. I found the swimming pool to be disappointingly small and overcrowded. It was useless for trying to do lane swimming in. I was unable to film in there.

This film features the following: the walkway to the hotel, exterior shots of the hotel building, entrance, reception, lobby, a view down from an atrium level to reception, views of the airport apron from the hotel, and a detailed room inspection of room 462.

I probably wouldn't stay at this particular hotel again in future, instead I would opt for something a little less pricey.
