Review: The Royal Continental Hotel, Napoli / Naples, Italy - July 2014

http://ift.tt/1oZRygk I stayed at the royal Continental Hotel for a night after getting off a cruise ship in Naples, I had one night at the hotel, before taking the flight home the next day. The hotel is right next to the sea on Via Partenope overlooking Castel dell'Ovo. Via Partenope is currently largely closed to most traffic so is a nice quiet road to be staying on currently. The hotel has much 1920s and art deco furnishings, and was quite a surprise, I liked the style. It was comfortable and the staff were very friendly. The rooftop pool was good, although a little cold on a very windy day. Breakfast was very good, and I would happily use this hotel again in future and recommend it to others.

Review: Holiday Inn Express, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Merseyside, England - July 2014

http://ift.tt/1nKKhSd I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express near Liverpool John Lennon Airport, whilst en-route to Italy. I had a very early morning flight, so staying at the airport hotel proved to be advantageous. The hotel is situated within a 5 minute taxi ride of the airport itself, and is a comfortable no-frills business style hotel, that is comfortable and modern with both free breakfast and free wi-fi. I enjoyed my stay here, and would recommend this hotel to other travellers who have an early start at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. This film features external views of the hotel, the reception, lift, a detailed room review, corridors, lobby and the breakfast buffet.

The Library of Birmingham, England - 3rd July, 2014

http://ift.tt/1rsAzXe The Library of Birmingham is a public library in Birmingham, England. It is situated on the west side of the city centre at Centenary Square, beside the Birmingham Rep (to which it connects, and with which it shares some facilities) and Baskerville House. Upon opening on 3 September 2013, it replaced Birmingham Central Library. The library, which is estimated to have cost £188.8 million, is viewed by the Birmingham City Council as a flagship project for the city's redevelopment. It has been described as the largest public library in the United Kingdom, the largest public cultural space in Europe, and the largest regional library in Europe. This film features external views of the building and its postmodern high-tech architecture, as well as internal views of the book stock, escalators, walkways, lifts, and facilities. It also features views within the Shakespeare Room. The Library has open roof terraces on two of the levels, and an expensive portion of this film is dedicated to views from these over the Birmingham and wider West Midlands landscapes. This is an excellent attraction to visit, and I thoroughly recommend it.

Review: The Copthorne Hotel, Birmingham, England - July 2014

http://ift.tt/1rsAzGu I recently stayed at The Copthorne Hotel, just outside of Birmingham City Centre's Paradise Forum and close to the Jewellery Quarter. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, it was comfortable, although for such a high profile hotel in the City it was a little dated in terms of decor. It needs modernising, and the rooms need to have air conditioning, at present they have rotating fans. With that said I did enjoy my stay here, although for the price may explore other options in future. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the staff friendly and attentive. This review includes external shots of the hotel, a detailed bedroom review, the lift, reception area, bar, restaurant and breakfast buffet.

http://ift.tt/1rqFOqk I recently stayed in The Premier Inn hotel on Waterloo Street in Birmingham City centre while on a working visit to the City. The hotel, whilst budget was very comfortable, the room although not where I wanted to be was quiet, and the staff were friendly. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and I would recommend this hotel to other visitors to Birmingham who need to be near the City centre. Featured in the film is an exterior shot of the hotel building, a detailed bedroom review, reception, the restaurant, breakfast buffet and bar.

Darfield, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England - 30th June, 2014

http://ift.tt/1qsJ0ju Darfield is a former pit village within the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it lies 5 miles (8.0 km) east of the town of Barnsley. This is a short film featuring views around the village, it is neither in depth or detail, as my time there was limited, but it does feature views of the old Darfield Foulstone School Playing Field, which has been left to go largely fallow and looks quite a mess. Rumours are that this will become a new 220 house estate. Next views are by the Upperwood School which is also overgrown, and then the Co-op which was once The Longbow pub. Then views are of the badly overgrown Inkerman Fields, which again the council has left to go fallow, they look a mess to me. After this point views are taken from a car along some of the streets in Darfield and Low Valley. I will return to Darfield and make a longer and more detailed video, but as this was a very short visit, I didn't the chance on this occasion.

Review: Ardsley House Hotel, Ardsley, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England - June 2014

http://ift.tt/1zb9MRy This film is a short review of Ardsley House Hotel, which is situated in the village of Ardsley, approximately 3 miles East of Barnsley town centre. It features external views of the hotel, the reception area, a detailed bedroom review, the bars, restaurant, corridors, Georgian staircase and function rooms: The Fitzwilliam Suite, The Elmhirst Suites; and the Yorkshire Room. It also features the gym and pool. Sadly shortly after filming this review, staff were told that this hotel would be closing in July 2014. I'm posting this review in the hope that the hotel can be saved, that somebody will see what a fantastic building Ardsley house is and invest in it.

A Walk Across Tower Bridge, London, England - 15th June, 2014

http://ift.tt/1moS1Km Tower Bridge (built 1886--1894) is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London which crosses the River Thames. It is close to the Tower of London, from which it takes its name, and has become an iconic symbol of London. The bridge consists of two towers tied together at the upper level by means of two horizontal walkways, designed to withstand the horizontal forces exerted by the suspended sections of the bridge on the landward sides of the towers. The vertical component of the forces in the suspended sections and the vertical reactions of the two walkways are carried by the two robust towers. The bascule pivots and operating machinery are housed in the base of each tower. The bridge's present colour scheme dates from 1977, when it was painted red, white and blue for Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee. Originally it was painted a mid greenish-blue colour. This film features views from a walk across tower Bridge on the East side from North to South, it features extensive views of the bridge architecture, as well as the surrounding buildings, passing traffic and River Thames below.
